Is it really free?↓
There's a free plan with a weekly word limit (a free account is required). Premium unlocks unlimited words and AI cleanup. See Pricing.
Is there a free trial?↓
Yes. Finish the guided setup and you get 2 weeks of Premium free, no card required. When it ends you keep Free forever, or upgrade to keep Premium.
Do I need an account?↓
Yes. Every plan, including Free, needs a Blurt account (a quick email sign-in) so we can apply your plan and word count. Your dictation still runs on-device.
Can I use it for medical notes?↓
Yes. Private mode (formerly Clinical mode) keeps every word on your Mac and adds an offline medical vocabulary of clinical terms, medications, and abbreviations. It is part of Premium; early beta users who tried it keep it free. See the Clinical page.
What do I need to run Blurt?↓
Blurt runs on macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, or Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit).
Does my voice get uploaded?↓
No. Transcription runs entirely on your device. See the Privacy page.
What is the AI cleanup?↓
An optional Claude Haiku pass that fixes filler words, casing, and punctuation. It's a Premium feature, off by default.
Where does the app live?↓
In your menu bar (a mic icon). There's no dock icon.
What permissions does it need?↓
